Barnet striker Jack Maskell has been handed a three-match suspension by the Football Association for violent conduct. The ban rules him out of the club's next three League Two fixtures as they push for promotion from second place, a position they hold with 18 points from eight games, comprising five wins and three draws.

The incident occurred in the 86th minute of Saturday's 3-1 victory away to Bristol Rovers. Match officials did not see the altercation involving Kofi Balmer during the game, but it was later reviewed on video. Maskell admitted the charge, leading to the automatic three-game penalty.

Match context and suspension impact

That win at the Memorial Stadium ended Bristol Rovers' 11-game winning streak and kept Barnet firmly in the automatic promotion places. Ellis Harrison opened the scoring for the Bees after just four minutes, with Adam Senior equalising in the 79th minute. Zac Williams then put Barnet ahead seven minutes later, before Kabongo Tshimanga sealed the points in stoppage time. The team has scored 20 goals this season while conceding 11.

The suspension means the 22-year-old Maskell will miss the trip to 13th-placed Tranmere Rovers this Saturday, followed by home games against Swindon Town and Oldham Athletic. He has made seven substitute appearances for Barnet this season but is yet to start a league match, having joined from Darlington in the summer after scoring 14 goals for them last term. The club's upcoming fixtures will now be without his services.

Promotion push continues

Their recent form reads three wins and two draws from the last five, leaving them unbeaten in that period. This run includes a goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon and a 3-1 victory over Fleetwood Town.

With Maskell unavailable, manager Dean Brennan will need to adjust his attacking options from the bench. Brennan confirmed the club would not appeal the decision, accepting the standard punishment for the offence. The team's next challenge is at Prenton Park, where they will look to maintain their position near the summit of League Two. Brennan has several forward alternatives within his squad, including recent signing Harry Smith, who is pushing for a more prominent role. The squad can also call upon the league's top scorer, Kabongo Tshimanga, who has 16 goals this season.
