Charlie Lakin scored twice in the second half to secure a 2-1 win for Barnet over Accrington Stanley at The Hive on Saturday. The victory extends the club's unbeaten run to 15 games and sends them back to the top of the Sky Bet League Two table, where they now have 12 points from six matches.

Accrington took the lead against the run of play in the 28th minute through Charlie Caton. Barnet responded after the break, with Lakin levelling the score in the 57th minute after a move involving Adam Senior. The midfielder completed his double and sealed the win with a decisive strike in the 72nd minute.

Manager's reaction

Dean Brennan said the victory ensured his side returned to the summit of the league table. "The victory was to be Barnet’s with all three points ensuring Dean Brennan’s side returned to the summit of the league table," the manager told reporters after the match.

Match details

The hosts had threatened earlier, with Oisin Gallagher forcing a save from Accrington goalkeeper Louie Moulden in the 35th minute. Idris Kanu and Tom Knowles also posed problems for the visiting defence. The game's momentum shifted after the equaliser, but Barnet were reduced to ten men when Devon Matthews was shown a red card just two minutes after they took the lead.

Damola Ajayi, the Tottenham Hotspur loanee winger, made his Barnet debut as a half-time substitute. The win marks Barnet's first three-point haul since their victory over Shrewsbury Town in late August and maintains their strong recent form, which reads two wins and three draws from the last five outings.

The team's next fixture is a trip to face Chesterfield, a side they drew 3-3 with earlier this month. That match is scheduled for next Saturday.
